The Sir James Ramsden statue. Ramsden (1822-1896) played a prominent role in the development of the town of Barrow-in-Furness. A benefactor of several civic and social facilities, he was knighted in 1872, with the statue being erected in Ramsden Square in the same year.

| The huge 'indoor' dock building in the background is owned by B.A.E. Systems, where Britain's nuclear submarines are maintained, and indeed built, amongst other Naval vessels. |
